Baptism

I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit..."

RITE OF BAPTISM

Holy Baptism is the basis for the whole of Christian life, the way to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments.  Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and become sharers in her mission.. BAPTISMAL PREPARATION FOR INFANTS AND CHILDREN

Congratulations on choosing to celebrate your child's baptism here at St. Peter Chanel.  We are honored to be part of this special step in your child's faith journey.  The Catholic Church has always taught and respected the understanding that parents are the primary educators in the faith of their children.  Our Baptismal preparation is designed to assist you, parents and godparents, in raising these children in the faith.

Please allow ample time to complete this planning.  Expectant mothers are encouraged to contact the office before their baby is born.  Parents wishing to baptize their child must be registered active members of St. Peter Chanel parish for 3 months prior to the celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism.  A Baptismal Preparation Class must have been attended at St. Peter Chanel or another Catholic parish within the last 3 years.  This class is usually offered monthly, on the second Sunday of the month at 10:45 a.m.

Please print out and complete the Baptism Registration Form.  We need the completed form in order to register you for the class and to confirm a Baptism date. In addition, we need a completed Godparent/Sponsor form.  One of the Godparents/Sponsors must be an active practicing Catholic.  We understand that every family is unique and that there are often special circumstances.  Should you wish to discuss your child's baptismal celebration, please feel free to contact us. To register for a class, or for any other questions relating to the celebration of this important sacrament for your child, please contact Cindy Czajkoski.

BAPTISMAL PREPARATION FOR OLDER CHILDREN (Grade 3 through Grade 12)

If your child is in Grade 3 or older and has not been Baptized, we offer a specialized preparation program that acknowleges your child's age, experiences, and unique circumstances.  Depending on the age of your child, additional preparation and formation may be offered to also celebrate their First Reconciliation (Sacrament of Reconciliation), First Communion (Sacrament of Eucharist), and the Sacrament of Confirmation.  You are asked to contact Laura Schwartz, Sacrament Coordinator to discuss how we can best work with you in your child's preparation to celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism.
