What is Alpha?
Young and old, married and single... we all have questions! Questions about school or work, or maybe about family and friends.
What am I going to wear today? Where will I eat? What will the weather be today? What am I going to do this weekend? I wonder what my friends would like to do tonight?
Some questions are more important than others.
Is it time for a job change? Am I ready for this exam? Will this medicine help?"
All of us at times ask even deeper questions about life and purpose, faith and meaning.
Why am I here? Is there more to life? What am I made for? Where am I going? How do I get there? Is there really a God?
Alpha is an opportunity to explore life and the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment. Essentially, it is a safe place to explore life’s biggest questions.
An Alpha Session at SPC looks like this:
Good Food - Every session begins at 6:30 pm with a period of fellowship and a full meal. An essential part of the evening, this is a time to relax, meet new friends and to have fun while sharing a meal.
Short Presentation - The meal is followed at 7:15 pm by a short talk exploring various aspects of the Christian faith. The talk may be presented in a dynamic video or by a live speaker.
Small Group Conversation - The presentation is followed at 7:45 pm by conversation in small groups. Everyone is welcome to share their thoughts and ask questions in a relaxed and non-judgmental atmosphere. The evening ends at 8:30 pm when small groups conclude their conversation and being to leave.
Who is Alpha for? Is it for me?
Yes, Alpha is for you!
I have questions...
Maybe you do not practice any faith or know God, but you have questions about life and may wonder if there is something more to life than what you are living?
I was raised in a religious tradition, but...
You may have been raised a Catholic or other Christian, but just never saw the point or "got anything out of going to church." Maybe you are non-Christian from another religious tradition and have just wondered about Catholics or Christianity in general.
I'm a Christian seeking renewal who wonders if something is missing...
Sometimes friends, even good friends, drift apart. Maybe you are a Catholic who loves the Lord and lives a life of faith, but who seeks renewal. Or feel you may have begun to drift and just want to reconnect and strengthen your friendship with Jesus.
I have a deep faith, and live the sacramental life of grace, prayer and service. Is Alpha for me? ...
Yes! Indeed, you may be a Catholic of deep faith, but there is always the possibility of meeting Jesus all over again where you are today today. Come meet Jesus anew, as if for the first time.
No matter who you are or where you are, Alpha is for you. Come and see!
